If your a bit new to the online stock photo marketing scene then this article can be helpful to you. When selling digital photos you may start to notice that a lot of your high selling pictures may be very simple. They might not shine in any particular way or be that appealing. Yet they yield high profits. That is because simple is better ladies and gentlemen.

Simple Photos? How so?

The idea of simple may scare a lot of photographers away. It may come across as easy or less artistic in the eyes of a photographer. I assure you it can be a very hard task to create profitable photos. As for the artistic qualities, they are a bit lacking but your artistic involvement is truly up to you. Simple photos, in most cases, sell better because your marketing towards the most frequent users of stock photo sites and your giving your photos a lot of flexibility.

The main users of stock photos are advertisers and graphic designers of sorts. There are many other people who use stock pictures on a daily basis but the previously mentioned two are the more populated buyers. Often, when advertisers and designers buy stock photos, they want straight forward pictures with simple backgrounds and simple object placement. Instead of using a digital camera to take their own picture of a ball on a white matte background, they simply put in "red ball" into the search engine and find tons of photos of all kinds of balls. They may then crop out just the ball and use it for a larger project they are working on. So in this case, if they were to find a digital photo of a ball laying in the grass they would simple pass it up for a simpler photo. You can read this in the Camera Dollars manual for more information. Hence, you could be making more money by simplifying the photos appearance.

How can I make my photos more profitable?

If you find yourself taking pictures of full landscapes and or very baroque pictures don't sweat it, keep these pictures and still try to market them. You don't have to throw out all your pictures, go out with your digital camera and go retake hundreds of new photos. Instead just try a new campaign where you simplify your pictures concepts. Here are a couple ways to ensure that your taking high profit pictures that will sell well and please buyers.
  • Make or Purchase a Light box
  • Take pictures of single objects against a matte background of wall of a single color
  • Don't take photos of many conflicting objects of different keywords (unless they easily group in the same categories)
  • Take the picture of main object in focus and the rest of the background out of focus
  • Upload a couple different angles of the same object
Besides ways of making them simpler remember to always take extremely in focused pictures. It is very important that you have a good crisp high resolution photo to back up your simple concept.

Not the Only Stock Photos that Sell

It is important that you try to appeal to the buyers but that isn't the only strategy to making high profits. Simple photos aren't the only thing that makes money by a long shot, there is many other unexplored campaigns that are an untapped resource just waiting to be found. Good stock photographers learn how to anticipate what the market want to see next. Therefore they stay ahead of the curve and make more earnings.

If you become steady with your earnings don't be afraid of experimenting and trying new ways of selling stock photography. Just remember that the market remains as variable as ever, but what does remain constant is that people want simple photos. Making it easier for them to be edited and used for other purposes. Picture and topic ideas may come and go like fads, but there will always be advertisements and designs.
